Wide view of Studio A showing the full length of the white cove, the grey floor and the curtain track

Hire · SE5 9HW, South London · from £120 · open 7 days

Room to move. Dark enough to light.

Choreography needs floor, and a performance piece needs a room where the light is a decision rather than a weather report. Studio A is 1,200 sq ft with full blackout curtains and a white drive-in cove behind the dancers; Studio B is the sound-treated room whose cove takes colour, for the single performer and the piece that is lit as much as it is danced.

How it works

  1. 01Tell us the pieceHow many dancers, how much travel, whether it is white, black or colour. That decides between Studio A and Studio B, and it is the moment to ask about the floor surface — we would rather describe it exactly than have you find out on the day.
  2. 02Book the blockStudio A is £160 for two hours, £320 for a half day and £620 for a full day; Studio B is £120, £220 and £420. Warm-up, marking and pack-down all sit inside the booked time.
  3. 03Bring the playbackWe have not published an in-house kit list, so plan on bringing your own speaker and playback. Tell us what you are bringing when you enquire and we will confirm what is on site.
  4. 04Quote the lightsLights are charged separately from the room rate in both rooms — please enquire about our lights and we will quote for the piece, whether that is a flat white wash or a single moving source.

Straight answers

What does dance video studio hire london cost at Scope?
Studio A starts at £160. Studio B starts at £120. Set-up and pack-down are inside your booked time.
Is there a sprung or dance floor in the studio?
We have not published the floor surface for either studio, and we would rather you asked than assumed. Tell us the piece and the footwear when you enquire and we will describe the floor exactly, so you can decide whether to bring your own dance floor to lay over it.
How big is the floor for a dance video?
Studio A is 1,200 sq ft, with a white drive-in infinity cove along it and full blackout curtains. Ceiling height and cove dimensions are on request rather than guessed, so tell us the lifts and the travel in the choreography and we will confirm the figures before you book.
Can a dance video be lit from black?
Yes. Studio A has full blackout curtains and Studio B is blackout capable, so the dancers can be lit out of a black void and the light at the end of the day matches the start. Lights are charged separately — please enquire about our lights.
Can we play music for a dance shoot, and is there a PA?
Bring your own playback — we have not published a PA or an in-house kit list, so confirm what you are bringing when you enquire. Studio A is not sound treated, so it is a playback room rather than a recording room; Studio B is built as a room within a room if the piece needs clean sound recorded as well.
Can a group rehearse before filming in the studio?
Yes, in the time you have booked: warm-up, marking and rehearsal all sit inside the booked block, so book the hours you need in the room rather than the hours you expect to be rolling. The dressing and prep room, kitchen and client lounge come with the booking.

In every room but one, lights are charged separately from the room rate, so please enquire about our lights and we will quote for what your shoot needs. The exception is the DJ room, where the professional film lighting is rigged in the room and included in the rate.

Anything not listed — ceiling heights, cove dimensions, power, capacities — is on request rather than guessed at. Ask us and you will get an exact answer.
