Scope runs free courses in music production and DJing with Tutor Hub Limited, for people facing barriers to getting into the industry. They happen in the same rooms paying clients hire — the desk you mix on in the evening did a paid session that morning.
How free
stays free
Nobody grants this and nobody donates it. Scope has never received a penny of grant funding: clients hire rooms, and we spend the margin on free places. Two years of commercial bookings have paid for every course we have run.
The demand is real — 603 people signed up across our 2024–25 course rounds. Courses run in rounds through the year with our education partner Tutor Hub Limited, who have taught the NCFE Level 2 route here and before it since 2021.
The courses
Music and Engineering. Production and engineering in the Music Studio: recording, mixing and studio craft, working towards producing and mixing a finished project.
Music and DJ'ing. The basics of production plus DJing in the Workshop room: technique, set-building and performance.
Both work towards the NCFE Level 2 qualification. No experience needed, nothing to pay. The free places are for people who are not in full-time work or full-time education.
What’s
next
We are building the next step: The Working Studio, a dedicated programme for 16–25s — the same courses with accreditation funded for every learner, plus paid junior shifts assisting real client sessions, and a showcase in Studio A to finish. We are applying for the funding to run it from spring 2027.
