The London Museum Opens at Smithfield on 28 November, Free to Enter
The London Museum opens its new Smithfield home on Saturday 28 November with free permanent galleries. Docklands stays open meanwhile; tickets are free.
The London Museum, formerly the Museum of London, opens its new home in the General Market at Smithfield on Saturday 28 November 2026. The museum's own site says "We're opening our new museum 28 Nov 2026" and asks visitors to book a free admission ticket.
What the City says
The City of London Corporation's page on the museum says the doors open on 28 November for the new free permanent galleries. It also says visitors can continue to visit London Museum Docklands, and that general admission there is free, with possible charges for special exhibitions.
What one report adds
These details are from London Guided Walks' report of 18 June, and we have not matched them to the museum's own pages. It describes a decade-long restoration of the Victorian market building by Stanton Williams and Asif Khan, with Julian Harrap as conservation specialist, and three gallery spaces: Real Time, Our Time and Past Time. Its inaugural programme, 'London Tastes', is curated by Ruby Tandoh and Jonathan Nunn.
In the same weeks
The opening lands in a busy fortnight. Van Eyck at the National Gallery opens on the 21st and Nan Goldin at the Hayward on the 24th; the whole run is in London culture, November and December 2026.
