Letitia Wright Faces the Critics Tonight in the Olivier

Letitia Wright makes her National Theatre debut in front of the critics tonight. Press night for The Story, in the Olivier, is Thursday 3 September; the production has been running since 27 August and continues to 24 October.

Tracey Scott Wilson wrote it and Clint Dyer directs. The National's own description: 'When a white teacher is killed in a black neighbourhood, four journalists race to get the headline – at any cost. But when shocking new evidence pulls them into the dark heart of the case, they are each forced to confront what they're prepared to risk to tell their version of the truth.'

Four journalists, one headline, and a Black Panther lead making her National Theatre debut.

The theatre bills a cast including 'BAFTA Award-winner Letitia Wright (Black Panther), Ashley Thomas (Hostage), Lorraine Toussaint (Orange is the New Black), and Wilf Scolding (Cabaret)'. Wright plays Yvonne, Thomas is Neil, Toussaint is Pat and Scolding is Jeff, with Aliyah Odoffin as Latisha and Antonia Bernath as Jessica Dunn.

Behind them: set by Anna Fleischle, costumes by Natalie Pryce, lighting by Paul Anderson, movement by Lucie Pankhurst, sound and additional music by Benjamin Grant, and video by Gino Ricardo Green and Tal Yarden. Dyer's record at this building is substantial — he directed Othello here, along with Wretch 32: HOME? and the Death of England trilogy he co-wrote with Roy Williams.

Practicalities, since the run has seven more weeks. It is approximately 2 hours 30 minutes including an interval, and the National warns that latecomers may not be admitted. The content advisory lists flashing lights, haze, loud noises, strong language and gunshots, with themes of racism, discrimination, violence and injury, and references to death.
