Spider-Man Breaks the UK Box Office After a Leicester Square Premiere
£23.5m in three days — the fourth-biggest UK-Ireland opening ever and a franchise record — days after Tom Holland walked Leicester Square in Savile Row.
The numbers first, because they are historic. Spider-Man: Brand New Day opened to £23.5m over three days at the UK-Ireland box office — the fourth-biggest three-day opening of all time, behind only Avengers: Endgame (£31.4m), The Force Awakens (£24.2m) and Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (£23.7m), per Screen Daily. Count the Wednesday opening and it took £36.4m across 716 sites, the third-highest including previews, behind Endgame and Spectre. It comfortably beat the franchise's own record — No Way Home's £19.5m three-day opening from 2021.
The week belonged to London before the tills opened. The UK premiere took over the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square on 29 July, with Tom Holland, Zendaya and Florence Pugh on the carpet. Holland — London-raised — wore a bespoke burgundy double-breasted suit by Savile Row house Anderson & Sheppard, finished with a British-made Pragnell spider brooch. And in the same frame, quietly monumental: Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey crossed £50m at the UK-Ireland box office in its third weekend. Two of the biggest cinema events of the year, and the British box office is where both are making history.
